Boot Space Insights

Nissan Qashqai Boot Space Review

The Nissan Qashqai, also known as the Nissan Dualis, is a great affordable family car with plenty of space. The space in the boot is important to many people because of its various uses. You can use it for transporting pets, carrying various types of luggage like suitcases, grocery bags, prams etc. Generally, having a lot of space in the boot is a plus on a family car or a crossover hatchback to SUV.

Overall boot capacity

  • Cargo capacity seats up – 430L – 567L boot space
  • Cargo capacity seats down – 860L – 1100L with folded seats
  • 70/30 split-folding rear seats

But knowing the dimensions isn’t everything; what exactly do they mean? How much space how much does 430l give you? You can comfortably fit in 4 large suitcases and possibly 3 small ones as well, but that will block your rearview mirror.  You could also fit a pushchair or pram, probably more than one, if it’s a small foldable one or one double pram into the boot. Golf bags with their golf clubs can easily fit into the boot. Foldable chairs or a couple of stacked chairs can fit into the boot. This is all before you fold the seats.

How much luggage & suitcases will fit in a Nissan Qashqai?

Many people would be surprised at just how much boot or trunk space the Nissan Qashqai has. Based on the practical tests, we were able to fit four large suitcases into the boot and two smaller bags. We managed to get all these in without folding down the back seats for more space.

With a 430 litre boot, the Nissan Qashqai has the same width as a hatchback. This means that the space is nearly the same except for the height offered. You can nearly double the height of the boot by removing the top flap. It can fit about four suitcases and a smaller suitcase, plus one bag, depending on how you organise them.

Boot space with the rear seats down

Once the seats are folded, you have double the cargo capacity, at 860l. With the seats folded you can fit comfortably 6 large suitcases.  Depending on your needs, you can also fit in a have folded seats Motability scooter, wheelchairs, pushchairs, bird cages, working equipment, and so much more. However, folding the rear seats down means you carry fewer passengers.  Because the seats have a 70/30 rear split, this means that you can fold half the seat and use the other half for passengers.  If you fold the smaller rear seat, then you can still fit two passengers on the remaining seats.

How to put rear seats down in Nissan Qashqai

The rear seats fold down in the old way, the traditional 60/40, or in this case 70/30 split, rather than the newer and more versatile 40/20/40 arrangement. They don’t do anything convenient such as sliding back and forth. You also have to release catches on the top of the rear seats before moving the seatback forward yourself, unlike other similar vehicles with handles in the boot to let you drop the rear seatbacks from outside.

If you want the rear seats folded this works differently depending on the model. For example How you fold the rear seats for a 3 door Nissan versus the 5 door version is different. Here’s a more detailed guide on how to put the rear car seats down.

Does The Nissan Qashqai boot have a false floor?

The false boot floor features is on all but entry-level Visia models. The boot floor is reversible and can be raised or lowered, depending on what you need. Raising the boot floor allows you to have a completely flat floor when the rear seats are folded. The boot has a flat loading lip and base, and the false floor can double as a boot divider. You could also use the compartment under the boot floor (false floor) for storing the parcel shelf.

The boot floor also allows you to raise the height of the floor when you don’t have passenger space and don’t need maximum luggage capacity, reducing the lip at the boot entrance. One side of the false boot floor is carpeted, but you turn it over, and you’ll find a wipe-clean surface – which is great for when you’re carrying muddy boots or your dog has muddy paws.

How much boot space for your dog

The boot lip can be completely removed to make the boot more accessible for your dog, especially when you have a smaller breed. You can flip the false floorboard when your dogs have muddy paws so that they travel on a surface that is easy to clean.

The Nissan Qashqai has a full five star Euro NCAP safety rating which means your dog can travel both in comfort and safety. The 430-litre boot should be big enough for most dog breeds, while the wide opening means they’ll find it easy to jump in and out. Dogs have exceptional hearing, which means they often hear what we can’t. The Qashqai has a quiet engine and road noise absorption, which will be easier on your dogs’ ears.

The car also comes with a wide variety of accessories available to choose from, including a dog guard to separate the boot from the rest of the car. This means your dog isn’t disturbed or potentially hurt by moving luggage whenever you’re on a bumpy section of the road.

Can you fit a pram in a Nissan Qashqai?

The boot offers both width and height, meaning larger prams can fit easily when placed at the correct angle. The variety of options, both rear seats flat, one rear seat down, or false bottom removed, means you can choose how best to store your pram. Double prams take up more space, but for smaller, easily foldable prams, you could fit more.

A temporary bed in the Nissan Qashqai boot

If you found yourself with nowhere to sleep, the boot of the Nissan Qashqai could easily transform into a temporary bed for a full adult, but, if you’re on the taller side, you may have to bend your legs. As mentioned before, the rear seats fold completely flat, and you can adjust the front seats forward. They’ll also undoubtedly serve as headrests to keep you from falling over. Just remember to keep your windows slightly open for ventilation.

How does the Nissan Qashqai SUV boot space compare in the SUV category?

If you had to look at all the small SUV’s on the market and calculate which has the biggest boot capacity, the Nissan Qashqai would be right near the top. Whilst Most SUV’s are fuel guzzlers; the Qashqai is not this one of them.
