Boot Space Insights

This detailed review of the Mitsubishi boot space should help you know more about the vehicle. When looking for a car that would be ideal for the family, the Mitsubishi Asx could be perfect. The Mitsubishi Asx has a fairly impressive boot space capacity. The boot capacity is one of the features that most people consider since you use the boot to carry different types of luggage. Things like grocery bags, suitcases, sports equipment and anything non-human you need to carry are all examples of what you can put in the boot. This makes this SUV great for trips and shopping with friends or family.

Mitsubishi ASX boot capacity

  • Cargo capacity with the seats up: 442 litres of boot space
  • Cargo capacity with the folded seats: 1 193 litres
  • Underfloor storage: 13 litres
  • 60/40 split-folding rear seats

The official boot capacity of the Mitsubishi ASX is about 442 litres of space. However, when you fold the split-folding seats the space increases to 1 193litres. An additional feature that increases the boot space of the SUV is the 13 litres underfloor storage.

Additional features of the Mitsubishi ASX boot

There is no lip on the boot and the opening is rather wide. As there is no lip on the opening of the boot you do not need to lift the luggage over the obstacle. This makes it easy to lift heavy loads into the boot. The 60/40 split of the seats means that when folded down there still may be space for passengers. The 13-litre underfloor storage does not only provide additional space. The underfloor storage provides a convenient packing strategy since you can store the least used package away and out of the way.

How to fold the Mitsubishi ASX rear seats

In order to increase the boot capacity, one might need to fold the rear seats. On top of the rear seats, there is a rear seat release button. Note that you take down or fold the seats one at a time. As you press the button push forward the seat. Putting the seat back into the original position is quite simple. You have to fold back the seat in position and makes sure it is locked. Read more on how to fold back rear seats.

How many bags can you fit in the Mitsubishi ASX boot?

To measure how many bags you can comfortably fit in the boot we did a small experiment. We laid the bags out in different ways to find which method would allow you to make the most of the boot space. Here’s what we found.

Packing your suitcases should not be an issue depending on the type of suitcases you have. Also depending on how you pack them. Packing them lying sideways or upright may allow you to get more space from this boot space. You will be able to pack quite a few large suitcases and a few smaller bags. You can also use the sky-hatch on the boot to carry tall objects. Owners do not have to fold the rear seats for more space. If the SUV does not have enough room, you can always tag a trailer. The Mitsubishi ASX can tow up to 1300 kg. This will allow passengers to carry all the gear and equipment they need for a the trip.

Quick Travel Tip: When packing your suitcases and car for a trip, be sure to carry only the things that you will need. Extra equipment that is not needed will take up space that you can use for something else.

What else can you fit in the Mitsubishi ASX boot?

Space for your dog in the Mitsubishi ASX boot

You can use the boot to transport you dog whenever you travel, especially if you already have people in the seats. For the safety of the dog and the passengers, we highly recommended that you place a division up to avoid the dog hopping to the seating area. For that, you can easily use a dog guard can be put up. As it is a 5 seater the rear windows are close to the rear of the car meaning that the boot area is properly ventilated. Getting the dog into the vehicle will not be hard at all as the boot has no lip.

Prams/Pushchairs in the Mitsubishi ASX boot

A question frequently asked by mothers is if the boot can accommodate a pram if a pram fits in the boot. The foldable pram can easily fit in the boot of the car as it is wide and getting it into the boot will be easy as well because of the wide opening and the absence of the boot lip. However, if one decides to put in the double prams they need more space as they are bigger. One might try adjusting the rear seat for more space.

Wheelchairs in the Mitsubishi ASX boot

This is other essential equipment that you can fit in the boot of the Mitsubishi ASX. A You can fit a foldable wheelchair in the boot of the car when the seats are folded and when they are not. Note that the it must be a foldable wheelchair. If the chair is not foldable or you haven’t folded it before trying to store it into the boot, even with the rear seats adjusted it will not fit.

Additional storage features  for the Mitsubishi ASX

In the boot of the Mitsubishi ASX, we find that there is a ski-hatch. This ski-hatch allows you to carry narrow or lengthy objects such as sporting equipment without having to fold the seats. The Mitsubishi ASX also has the towing feature which tolls a weight of about 1 300 kg. This means that if the storage provided by the boot is not enough for the trip you can attach a trailer for luggage or sports equipment, even that fishing boat!

Safety is another feature supported by the boot as under the underfloor storage we find that there is compartment space for the tyre repair kits. Now one might question where or how to access the underfloor storage. The false floor which is found in the boot can be lifted and underneath it, there is the storage space. After having stored whatever there, you can easily put back the floorboards of your vehicle. When we are talking about the 30-litre boot capacity of the underfloor storage it is not inclusive of the tyre repair kit and the spare tyre.

Comparing the Mitsubishi ASX, the Outlander and the Eclipse boot spaces

VehiclePassenger capacityBoot capacity
ASX5 seater442 litres,1 000 when seats are adjusted
Outlander7 seater 591 litres, 1 022 litres with last row seats adjusted
Eclipse5 seater341 litres, 488 when seats are adjusted

When looking for the ideal SUV for family use I would not recommend the Mitsubishi eclipse as the boot capacity is not as impressive as the others. The Outlander can also be found as a 5 seater. The Mitsubishi SUV with the biggest space is the Outlander with its 1 022 boot space and 7 seater carrying capacity. However, it is to be noted that the Mitsubishi ASX can be considered a smaller version of the larger Outlander as it was designed to follow its footsteps. The difference between the Mitsubishi Outlander and the ASX is that of the engine performance and size mainly plus the other small features of the car.

Here lies the answer about which boot is bigger between the Mitsubishi ASX and Mitsubishi Eclipse boot space. The Mitsubishi ASX has more boot space than that of the Eclipse. The Mitsubishi Eclipse total boot capacity with seats adjusted is a bit more than the normal boot capacity of the ASX without the adjusted seats. When the seats are adjusted in the ASX the total boot space is twice as big as that of the Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Is the Mitsubishi ASX reliable?

With an adequate 2.0 litre engine which entails fuel efficiency. Mitsubishi ASX overview

The Mitsubishi ASX is a great car with interior space that is quite average. Most would expect the SUV to be more spacious than it is in reality. Due to a compact interior, only 4 adults will sit comfortably. Although it may seem compact, this car has many storage compartments. It also has lots of head and legroom for the passengers. All the doors are equipped with a large bottle holder for each passenger. There are 3 additional cup holders between the front seats.
